ENT Refresher Series Goals

  • To expand the lines of communication between primary care physicians and specialists in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery
  • To share discussion and recent advances as it pertains to complex or challenging cases in Otolaryngology

By the end of this ENT Refresher Webinar Series, participants will be able to

  • Apply knowledge of recent advances to complex or challenging cases in Otolaryngology
  • Employ an increased quality of care to patients requiring ENT based treatment
  • Recognize when a referral to an ENT specialist should occur, and how to optimize pre-referral workup

Certificates of Attendance

  • Certificates will be emailed at the end of the 5 week webinar series, with individual certificates being sent for each webinar attended. Each certificate will contain the Mainpro Program ID number for the associated webinar. This will assist attendees in finding the event within the CFPC website. Certificates can only be distributed to those attendees who both register for and attend the webinar of interest. Unfortunately, recordings of the webinars will not be available for download or for viewing at a later date.

ENT Emergencies: Situations Requiring Immediate Referral


OBJECTIVE:
To identify otolaryngologic conditions that require immediate referral.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the presentation of sudden sensorineural hearing loss as an ENT emergency
  • Identify when an ear or sinus infection requires prompt referral
  • Develop an approach to management of nasal trauma including assessing for a septal hematoma and appreciation of the timeline for nasal fracture reduction
  • Assess an acute auricular (ear pinna) injury
  • Identify pediatric foreign body situations that require immediate Emergency Room assessment

Tips and Tricks for Biopsying Head and Neck Lesions


OBJECTIVE:
To review tips and tricks for diagnosing and treating patients presenting with common cutaneous lesions. Common biopsy techniques and indications will be reviewed.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Compare and contrast different types of cutaneous lesions based on their presentation, morphology and prognosis
  • Develop an approach to the patient with a suspicious cutaneous lesion and to evaluate the need for biopsy
  • Distinguish between pigmented lesions such as solar lentigines and nevi and the more concerning dysplastic nevi
  • Assess a patient’s risk for melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers based on risk factors and clinical presentation
  • Review various biopsy techniques and indications for each

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

To review common ENT conditions, such as otitis media and tonsillitis, in the pediatric  population and  their medical and surgical management

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

-Describe current evidence in the approach to otitis media and tonsillitis in the pediatric population.
-Describe the indication for surgical management of otitis media and tonsillitis in the pediatric population.

To understand the presentation of common head and neck skin cancers and their management

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

- Recognize typical and atypical presentations of common head and neck skin cancers.
- Investigate and triage common head and neck skin cancers.
- Describe general principles of management of common head and neck skin cancers.

To review the clinical presentation and management of acute and chronic rhinosinusitis

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

- Generate a comprehensive list of differential diagnoses for patients presenting with symptoms consistent with acute and chronic rhinosinusitis.
- Treat acute and chronic rhinosinusitis based on current evidence.
- Select appropriate patients with symptoms of acute and chronic rhinosinusitis for ENT referral.

To review the presentation of thyroid nodules and understand their management and follow-up, based on TIRADS scoring

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: 

-Gain an approach to thyroid nodules.
-Apply TIRADS scoring system in the management of thyroid nodules.

To distinguish sudden sensorineural hearing loss from other presentations and review the urgency and acute management of this condition

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

-Recognize the presentation of SSNHL as an ENT emergency and consult accordingly.
-Describe the general principles of acute management of SSNHL.
