Phishing attacks
Recently, Western has experienced an increased number of Phishing attacks.
September is typically a high volume month for Phishing attempts as we have many new and returning students back on Campus.
Western Information Technology Services (ITS) has seen this in the past and is taking a number of steps to minimize the impact to Students including taking advantage of Microsoft’s O365 spam detection and prevention tools, as well as our own internal Western anti-Spam controls.
However, we also need your help as some of these Phishing attacks continue to be successful in acquiring Faculty and Staff accounts and passwords.
Here is one important activity that you can do to help us protect each other against these security threats, Review the CyberSmart website (https://cybersmart.uwo.ca/secureemail/phishing/index.html) for information on how to recognize a Phishing email and what to do if you receive one. "
