Announcement: Brad Urquhart, PhD, re-appointed as the Associate Dean, Basic Medical Sciences Undergraduate Education
Brad Urquhart, PhD
I am pleased to announce that Brad Urquhart, PhD, has been re-appointed as the Associate Dean, Basic Medical Sciences Undergraduate Education (BMSUE) at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, effective September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2030.
Dr. Urquhart earned his BSc and PhD in pharmacology and toxicology from Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. He then completed his post-doctoral studies at the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. In 2009, he joined the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Schulich as an Assistant Professor. He was appointed as an Associate Professor in 2015. He currently holds the rank of Professor within the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology.
Dr. Urquhart maintains an active research program in the areas of basic and clinical pharmacology with a focus on understanding why patients vary in their response to medications. His laboratory is particularly interested in kidney disease as patients with this condition take several medications concurrently and have a much greater chance of experiencing drug toxicity.
He is currently president of the Canadian Society of Pharmacology and Therapeutics and an active member of the American Society of Nephrology; the Canadian Society of Nephrology; and the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.
Dr. Urquhart is the recipient of several awards including the Faculty Scholar Award; the Young Alumni Award; the Deans Award of Excellence for Junior Faculty; and the Marilyn Robinson Award for Teaching Excellence.
Dr. Urquhart will be taking a study leave for a period of one year. In the interim, Dr. Walter Rushlow is appointed as the Acting Associate Dean, BMSUE, effective September 1, 2024, until August 31, 2025.
