Announcement: Dr. Irene Yang appointed Endowed Chair in Orthopedic Spine & Trauma Biomechanics

We are pleased to announce Dr. Irene Yang’s joint appointment as the holder of the newly established Endowed Chair in Orthopedic Spine & Trauma Biomechanics at the Faculty of Engineering and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, effective January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2029.
Dr. Irene Yang earned her Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Hons) from the University of Sydney, Australia, in 2015, followed by a Bachelor of Medical Science (Hons) from the same university in December 2015. Building on her interdisciplinary foundation, she completed her DPhil in Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford, U.K., in 2022.
Dr. Irene Yang's contributions to orthopedic engineering research have been recognized with several prestigious awards. In 2023, she was honoured with the International Traveling Fellowship by the British Orthopaedic Research Society and the Bone & Joint Research Journal, U.K., acknowledging her as a prominent leader in orthopedic engineering. Dr. Yang's impact and achievements were further highlighted in December 2022, when she received the GIANT Conference Travel Funding from the University of Edinburgh. Additionally, she was awarded the Oxford/Santander Travel Abroad Bursaries and travel Bursaries from New College and NDORMS at the University of Oxford, underscoring her commitment to research excellence and fostering international collaboration.
With her multidisciplinary expertise and an impressive record of scholarly achievements, Dr. Irene Yang remains at the cutting edge of innovation in orthopedic spine and trauma biomechanics. She is poised to make substantial contributions to both health care and engineering, advancing the fields with her pioneering research and forward-thinking approach.
