Announcement - Dr. Kristin Clemens appointed as Diabetes Canada Chair in Diabetes Management
Dr. Kristin Clemens
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Kristin Clemens has been appointed as the Diabetes Canada Chair in Diabetes Management at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, effective March 1, 2024, to February 28, 2029.
Dr. Clemens, having pursued her entire higher education at Western University, obtained her Honors Bachelor of Science in Biology and her MD degree in 2008, completed a fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism in 2013, and earned a Master of Science in 2015. Dr. Clemens is currently an Associate Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
In addition to her faculty appointments, Dr. Clemens is also the current Site Director for ICES Western, Associate Scientist at Lawson Health Research Institute, and Medical Director of the Osteoporosis and Bone Disease Program at St. Joseph’s Health Care London.
Dr. Clemens is an active multimorbidity and disparities researcher, with a special focus on improving the care and outcomes of patients with endocrine, metabolic bone, and chronic kidney disease. She has conducted ICES administrative research for more than 10 years at ICES Western, and has experience with qualitative methodology, patient-oriented research, innovative randomized controlled trials, and quality improvement initiatives. Her research has received funding from several organizations, including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Kidney Foundation of Canada. In 2017, Dr. Clemens was awarded the Diabetes Canada Junior Investigator Award. Dr. Clemens is also a research mentor to undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate trainees, and is particularly passionate about mentoring trainees who have faced personal disparities.
In 2023, Dr. Clemens was awarded the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry Dean’s Award of Excellence in Research and Innovation. In 2023, she also represented Canada at the Endocrine Society’s Global Leadership Academy in Chicago, U.S.
As Diabetes Canada Chair, Dr. Clemens’ goal is to conduct innovative and impactful real-world research to close care gaps in the management of those with multimorbid diabetes mellitus. Dedicated to improving the lives of Canadians living with diabetes, Diabetes Canada assists researchers in developing leading-edge treatments and interventions.
