Announcement: Dr. Ruth Lanius re-appointed as the Harris Woodman Endowed Chair in Psyche and Soma

I am pleased to announce Dr. Ruth Lanius has been re-appointed as the Harris-Woodman Endowed Chair in Psyche and Soma at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University from April 1, 2023 – March 31, 2028.

Dr. Lanius graduated from the University of British Columbia with a combined MD/PhD in neuroscience in 1996, and continued training at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, Western University where she specialized in psychiatry.

Dr. Lanius’ research stemming from the Harris-Woodman Chair has focused on mapping the brain of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and characterizing and defining different subtypes of PTSD. Her research group is continuing to develop and disseminate novel, innovative brain-guided treatments for individuals suffering from PTSD, including civilians, military members and veterans, Indigenous Peoples, as well as healthcare workers and public safety personnel.

In 2012, she was appointed as full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. Dr. Lanius is the Director of the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder research unit. She established the Traumatic Stress Service and the Traumatic Stress Service Workplace Program, services that specialize in the treatment and research of PTSD and related comorbid disorders.

Dr. Lanius has given more than 250 invited lectures locally, nationally, and internationally. Her numerous awards recognizing her scholarly contributions include the Banting Award for Military Health Research, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Training on Trauma and Attachment in Children, and election to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
