Announcement: Dr. Craig Campbell appointed as Chair, Department of Paediatrics

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Craig Campbell has been appointed in the Department of Paediatrics as:

  • Chair (Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University – effective June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2028);
  • Physician Executive (Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre – effective June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2028); and
  • Chief (St. Joseph’s Health Care London – effective June 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024).

Dr. Campbell is a Professor within the Department of Paediatrics at Western University, with cross appointments in the Departments of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Clinical Neurological Sciences.

Dr. Campbell joined the Department of Paediatrics in 2003 following fellowship training at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Campbell has Canadian certification in electromyography (EMG) and neurophysiology and runs the paediatric EMG/NCS clinic at Children’s Hospital at LHSC. He is the Head of the Division of Paediatric Neurology and the Medical Director of the Multidisciplinary Neuromuscular Clinic based at Thames Valley Children’s Centre.

Dr. Campbell, a celebrated leader and clinician, was appointed as the Head of the Division of Paediatric Neurology in 2014, and in 2018, became Deputy Chair of Research in the Department.

Dr. Campbell graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa in 1996 and his training in Paediatric Neurology in 2003 at the University of Ottawa. He has completed his MSc in Epidemiology in Ottawa as well.

Dr. Campbell is a Scientist at the Children’s Health Research Institute (CHRI) and a renowned researcher and clinician in neuromuscular disease in children and rare disease registry development. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he has been awarded the George Karpati Award Researcher of the Year in 2011 and 2015 from Muscular Dystrophy Canada, and the CHRI Scientist of the Year in 2019.

Since 2020, Dr. Campbell and Dr. Ram Singh have worked together to provide exceptional leadership for the Department while serving as interim Co-Chairs/Physician Executives/Chiefs. Their expertise and guidance were invaluable during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we greatly appreciate their dedication to the Paediatrics program, which is among the largest training programs of its kind in Canada.
