Announcement: Dr. J Don Richardson appointed as the Tanna Schulich Chair in Neuroscience & Mental Health

I am pleased to announce that Dr. J Don Richardson has been appointed as the Tanna Schulich Chair in Neuroscience & Mental Health at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, effective February 1, 2023 to January 31, 2028.  

In 1987, Dr. Richardson earned his Bachelors of Social Work from McGill University. In 1991, he earned his MD from Queen’s University and in 1996, his fellowship in psychiatry from the University of Ottawa.

He joined the Western Department of Psychiatry in January 2001, as an adjunct professor and in 2021 he was promoted to full professor.

Currently, Dr. Richardson is the Medical Director at St. Joseph's Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Clinic in London, Ontario and the Wellness Lead for the Department of Psychiatry, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. He is also the Scientific Director of the MacDonald Franklin OSI Research Centre at the Parkwood Institute and a fellow with the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health.    

For more than 25 years Dr. Richardson has been a clinician researcher and educator focusing on military and veteran health. He has built collaboration among researchers and clinicians regionally, nationally and internationally. 

Dr. Richardson has more than 80 published articles and book chapters on risk factors for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and suicidal ideation, sleep disturbances, treatment outcomes and the impact of PTSD on quality-of-life. 

His more recent research interests include using advanced analytics to both improve treatment outcomes in PTSD and other OSI's and to better understanding comorbidity in Canadian veterans suffering with PTSD. Dr. Richardson is also leading the longitudinal research examining the impact of the COVID pandemic on veterans and veteran spouses and similar longitudinal research examining general well-being and Moral Injury in healthcare workers during the pandemic.
