Announcement: Dr. Emil Schemitsch elected to Orthopaedic Trauma Association leadership

Dr. Emil Schemitsch, Chair/Chief, Department of Surgery, has been appointed as the second President Elect of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA), effective October 2021.

The OTA is an international professional membership organization with more than 2,700 orthopaedic trauma surgeons and health care providers. The mission of the OTA is to promote excellence in care for the injured patient, through scientific forums and support of musculoskeletal research and education. 

As a member of the OTA Presidential Line, Schemitsch will be tasked with overseeing the complete operation of the organization. This includes presiding over the Board of Directors and OTA leadership to establish and execute short and long-term goals and overall strategic direction and promoting the Association’s mission to external and internal stakeholders.

Throughout his five-year term, Schemitsch will serve two years as President-Elect, one year in the role of the OTA President and two years as OTA Past-President. He is the fourth Canadian physician elected as OTA President since its founding in 1977.
