Announcement: Dr. Laura Foxcroft appointed as Assistant Dean, Faculty Wellbeing

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Laura Foxcroft has been appointed as the Assistant Dean, Faculty Wellbeing, at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University effective October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2025.

Dr. Foxcroft graduated from the Doctor of Medicine program at McMaster University in 2001.  She completed her residency in Family Medicine in 2003 and a fellowship in Emergency Medicine in 2004 at Queen’s University.

Dr. Foxcroft brings a breadth of clinical and academic experience, having spent her first two years of practice doing community emergency medicine in Brockville as well as working as a clinical associate in the Intensive Care Unit at Kingston General Hospital. From 2006 to 2008, Dr. Foxcroft practised emergency medicine at the Ottawa Hospital and was an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Foxcroft is currently an Associate Professor in Emergency Medicine at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry and practises urgent and emergency medicine in London.

Dr. Foxcroft has developed a passion for physician wellbeing and has contributed extensively in this area at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. She designed and implemented the role of Provider Value Officer in Emergency Medicine, focused on academic mentorship and wellbeing of physicians within this division. At the School level, she has contributed to mentoring and guiding faculty through her co-leadership of workshops: “How to Get Promoted:  Clinical Academics from Assistant to Associate Professor.”

In addition to implementing the School’s mentorship policy within her own department, Dr. Foxcroft has also been instrumental in providing workshops to guide other departments in the implementation of this policy. Dr. Foxcroft believes wellbeing and equity is essential to ensure all faculty thrive academically in order to achieve high levels of career satisfaction. Recently, she took part in the inaugural Schulich Wellbeing Program, “Peers to Peers,” representing the Department of Medicine as the Wellbeing Lead. Her experience and background enabled her to implement and expand the program within the Department of Medicine into a larger divisional model with a network providing one-on-one wellbeing peer support for faculty during the pandemic.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Laura Foxcroft on her new appointment.
