Funding: New Frontiers in Research Fund - Exploration Stream
Congratulations to Dr. Tom Appleton and David Holdsworth, PhD, who have received funding from the New Frontiers in Research Fund - Exploration Stream to support high-risk, high-reward and interdisciplinary research.
Appleton’s project, entitled “Friend or Foe? Mechanically Induced Inflammation in Osteoarthritis,” will a new class of ‘anti-mechanical medicines’ that target mechanically-induced inflammation in knee osteoarthritis to prevent disease progression.
Holdsworth’s project, entitled “Novel therapies for infections near orthopaedic implants,” will address a leading cause of joint-replacement revision surgery and investigate novel, cost-effective approaches to treat infections near orthopaedic implants.
