In memoriam: Dr. Gérard Guiraudon

It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of Dr. Gérard Marcel Guiraudon on February 14, 2019.

As a professor of medicine in Paris, Dr. Guiraudon performed the first heart transplant in Europe in 1968.
He arrived in London, Ontario in 1981, where he continued to pioneer surgical procedures at London Health Sciences Centre and engage in groundbreaking research focused on cardiac electrophysiology at Western University. He collaborated on research projects as an associate scientist at Robarts Research Institute, and worked with scientists from around the world.

He cherished imagination and invention in his field to better the lives of patients, and is described as "a passionate storyteller and astute observer of our times."
