Award: Dr. Tim Doherty honoured by CAPM&R

Congratulations to Dr. Timothy Doherty, Chair/Chief of the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation for being named the 2018 Award of Merit Recipient from the Canadian Association of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (CAPM&R).

Dr. Doherty is being honoured for his contribution to the field of Physiatry through research, education, advocacy, medical care, humanitarianism, and mentorship.

“This award is very meaningful because it is recognition from my peers at CAPM&R,” said Dr. Doherty. “I have been an active member of CAPM&R since residency and have seen the organization grow and mature considerably – I am proud that my colleagues feel I have made a significant contribution to our specialty and the association.”

Dr. Doherty served as president of CAPM&R from 2005 to 2007 and held the Canada Research Chair in Neuromuscular Function in Health Aging and Disease from 2005 to 2010.

He pioneered the development of quantitative EMG techniques that have been employed to study aging, motor neuron disease and peripheral neuropathies, and has been involved with research on concussion in young athletes.
