Announcement: Ruth Lanius re-appointed as the Harris-Woodman Endowed Chair

I am pleased to announce Dr. Ruth Lanius has been re-appointed as the Harris-Woodman Endowed Chair in Psyche and Soma at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University from April 1, 2018 – March 31, 2023.

Dr. Lanius graduated from the University of British Columbia with a combined MD/PhD in neuroscience in 1996, and continued training at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, Western University where she specialized in psychiatry.

Dr. Lanius’ research interests focus on studying the neurobiology of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and treatment outcome research examining various pharmacological and psychotherapeutic methods. She has authored more than 150 published papers and chapters in the field of traumatic stress and is currently funded by several federal funding agencies.  She regularly lectures on the topic of PTSD nationally and internationally.

In 2012, she was appointed as full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. Dr. Lanius is the Director of the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder research unit. She established the Traumatic Stress Service and the Traumatic Stress Service Workplace Program, services that specialize in the treatment and research of PTSD and related comorbid disorders.

Dr. Lanius has been the recipient of numerous awards including the BC Governor General’s Medal in 1987, Psychiatry Faculty Award of Excellence in 2003, and The Richard P. Kluft Award for Journal of Trauma and Dissociation 2012 Best Article in 2013. She recently published a book ‘Healing the Traumatized Self: Consciousness, Neuroscience, Treatment’ with Paul Frewen.
