Announcement: Dr. Alison Allan appointed Interim Chair, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology

I am pleased to announce Dr. Alison Allan has been appointed as Interim Chair of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University effective February 1, 2017 to January 31, 2018 or until a new Chair has been appointed.

Dr. Allan earned an Honours BSc in Molecular Biology and Genetics and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Guelph. She is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Anatomy and Cell Biology, and Oncology. Her previous administrative/leadership roles include Graduate Chair in Anatomy and Cell Biology from 2010-2016, and Acting Chair of Oncology from July-September 2015 at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. Dr. Allan is also a senior oncology scientist and the Assistant Director of the Pamela Greenaway Kohlmeier Translational Breast Cancer Research Unit within the London Regional Cancer Program at London Health Sciences Centre.

Dr. Allan’s translational research program is focused on cellular and molecular mechanisms of cancer metastasis; in particular the study of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and cancer stem cells (CSCs) and how the knowledge gained from experimental studies in these areas can be translated to the clinic to benefit patients. She is a Canadian leader in the area of CTC analysis and technology development, and her research group is actively involved in several collaborative local and multi-centre cancer clinical trials. Dr. Allan has published more than 45 peer-reviewed publications and her work has been cited more than 1,700 times.
