Dr. Davy Cheng has been extended as Chair/Chief of the Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine

Dr. Davy Cheng has been extended as Chair/Chief, Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, and its teaching hospitals, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care London, until June 30, 2017.

Dr. Cheng has been Chair/Chief of the Department since 2001. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto in 1983, and completed his anesthesia residency and FRCPC (Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada) in 1987 at the University of Toronto. Dr. Cheng joined Schulich Medicine & Dentistry in 2001. He is a Distinguished University Professor, and is a Professor in the Critical Care Medicine Division, Department of Medicine, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. Dr. Cheng has been serving as active member in the London hospitals Medical Advisory Council since 2001, and as Chair of the Committee of Clinical Chairs at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry since 2012.

Dr. Cheng is a world-renowned clinician-researcher in cardiac anesthesia and critical care, blood management and evidence-based perioperative clinical practice.

He was elected as the North American Representative to the Scientific Affairs Committee at World Federation Societies of Anesthesiologists in 2012; member in the World Health Organization GIEESC Anesthesia Committee in 2013; and President of the International Anesthesia Research Society in 2016.

Dr. Cheng is a well-respected health care leader in evidence-based medicine and health policy, as he was the first anesthesiologist elected as Fellow at the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2007. He has received numerous additional awards and honours. In 2013, Dr. Cheng was designated as Canadian Certified Physician Executive by the Canadian Medical Association and the Canadian Society of Physician Executives (CSPE). In 2014, he was honoured with the CSPE Excellence in Medical Leadership Award, and inducted with the highest award by the German Society of Anesthesiologists and Intensive Care as its honorary member. In 2015, Dr. Cheng was awarded the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society Gold Medal for his outstanding contributions in leadership and professional and clinical excellence in anesthesia in Canada.
