In Memoriam – Dr. Mitchell Baran, HBA’59; LLD’11

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Mitchell Baran, HBA’59; LLD’11. He was a great friend and supporter of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and Robarts Research Institute.

In learning of his passing, Dr. Michael J. Strong, dean, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry shared the following:

"London, Western University and the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry have lost one of our greatest supporters and advocates.

I had the privilege of getting to know Mitch in my role as Dean of Schulich Medicine & Dentistry and would often turn to him for quiet advice, especially on matters that would involve our community on an international platform. His keen sense of business transcended many of our conversations and brought with it a sense of wisdom and insight that is truly rare. His support of our community, through multiple venues, often without any accolades, marked him as a truly unique individual.

Mitch was a tireless supporter of innovation and indeed, his desire to bring business and research more closely together was exemplified in his close collaborations with respiratory and imaging researchers across the city. On behalf of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry family, I extend my sincere condolences to the Baran family and to all those at Trudell for whom Mitch cared so much."

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road N., London.
