Call for Applications - Assistant Dean, Rural & Regional Community Engagement

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Dean, Rural & Regional Community Engagement (RRCE), to be effective July 1, 2014.

The Assistant Dean, RRCE will be responsible for the vision, delivery and strategic outcomes of the medical education activities occurring within the rural and regional component of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry Distributed Medical Education (DME) Program. This person will work collaboratively with the Undergraduate (UME) and Postgraduate Medical Education (PGE) programs and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Education and will report to the Associate Dean, UME and Associate Dean, PGE.

The incumbent will be responsible for promoting and fostering the perspective of rural and regional health care in the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum and liaise with rural and regional preceptors in UME, PGE and CPD distributed site programs.  She/he will implement the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry DME Strategic Plan ensuring alignment of outcomes with the school’s vision and strategic priorities.  The incumbent will meet regularly with the DME faculty, leads and staff to advise on items that impact the educational delivery of UME and PGE standards.

The Assistant Dean, RRCE will effectively facilitate workshops in collaboration with the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) office to promote scholarly work among rural and regional faculty.

Candidates for the Assistant Dean, RRCE are expected to have experience, knowledge and commitment to medical education in rural settings.  She/he should have a demonstrated ability to collaborate, communicate, and facilitate in complex environments. Established leadership and team building capacities and a track record of sustained commitment are expected.

The successful candidate must already hold an academic appointment within the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, and will require a time commitment of two days per week for a five year term, with the possibility of renewal.

The applicant should forward a letter of intent, current Curriculum Vitae and the names of three references to the attention of Dr. Bertha Garcia, Vice Dean, Education via e-mail attachment to no later than March 27, 2014 by 5:00 p.m.  Applicants will be vetted by an Advisory Committee, who will carry out interviews of selected applications in May 2014, and make a recommendation for appointment to the Dean.

Positions are subject to budget approval.
