Schulich Medicine & Dentistry welcomes 171 new medical students
It’s the start of a four-year journey toward fulfilling a dream. For the 171 new medical students receiving their white coats this week, Schulich Medicine’s traditional White Coat Ceremony represents the official start of their medical training and serves as a symbolic welcome into the profession of medicine.
Donning of the traditional white coat and the recitation of the Hippocratic Oath symbolize the students’ understanding of the professional, social and ethical responsibilities of becoming physicians. It is a moment of immense pride for both the students and their families.
Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry will hold its White Coat Ceremony on Tuesday, August 26 in Room 145 of the Natural Sciences Centre. Students and their families will begin arriving at 8:30 a.m. for registration and to take photos in a photo booth, with the formal program beginning at 10:00 a.m. Students will be available for interviews before or after the program.
Thirty-eight of the 171 students are enrolled in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry - Windsor Program and will fulfill their medical training in Windsor. The Windsor Program is holding a meet and greet for its students on Tuesday, September 2, in the Medical Education Building at the University of Windsor campus. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the formal program to begin at 6:00 p.m.
First-year dental students will have their White Coat Ceremony on Friday, August 29 at 10:30 a.m., in the Davenport Theatre at Talbot College.
