Dr. Peter Williamson

Professor Emeritus

Dr. Williamson is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry at Western University in London, Ontario after retirement from the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry where he held the Tanna Schulich Chair in Neuroscience and Mental Health with cross appointments in Medical Imaging, Medical Biophysics and Clinical Neurological Sciences.

Dr. Williamson completed his MD degree at the University of Western Ontario and most of his specialty and research training at the University of Toronto. He is licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. He also holds a Specialty Certificate in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and he is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

His clinical experience includes more than thirty-five years working in outpatient and inpatient settings and he has trained numerous medical students, residents in psychiatry, and graduate students in neuroscience and medical biophysics; many of whom who have gone on to distinguished academic careers in Canada, United States, and Europe. He has authored or co-authored more than 125 papers and 2 textbooks published by Oxford University Press on a broad range of disorders including mood, anxiety, schizophrenic, posttraumatic and neuropsychiatric disorders, which have been referenced in more than 14,000 publications.
