Profile
Dr. Anthony Nazarov is a neuroscientist and health services researcher specializing in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), moral injury, operational stress injuries, and organizational wellbeing in high-risk occupations. He is the Associate Scientific Director of the MacDonald Franklin Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Research Centre, Associate Scientist at Lawson Research Institute, and Research Scientist in the Department of Psychiatry at Western University. He also holds an Adjunct Research Professor appointment in Epidemiology & Biostatistics at Western University.
Dr. Nazarov leads national and international programs focused on improving mental health prevention, early intervention, and treatment for military members, Veterans and other high-risk occupations. His work spans moral injury, moral-ethical decision-making, health services utilization, organizational and leadership determinants of wellbeing, and optimization of resilience training. His research portfolio integrates epidemiology, implementation science, quantitative analytics, and pragmatic clinical research to accelerate real-world impact.
He previously served as a Defence Scientist with Defence Research & Development Canada (DRDC), where he led projects on psychological resilience, treatment engagement, and psychological readiness in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Dr. Nazarov is widely recognized for his leadership in the moral injury field and is was the inaugural Chair of the National Moral Injury Community of Practice at the Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families. He is also a member of the Five Eyes Mental Health Research and Innovation Collaboration and the ARC Network (CIPSRT). He was appointed Fellow of the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research (CIMVHR) in 2023 in recognition of his scientific contributions and national leadership.
Dr. Nazarov’s work is supported by Veterans Affairs Canada, CIHR, the Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families, the Chronic Pain Centre of Excellence, CIMVHR, PHAC, and other provincial and federal partners. He collaborates extensively with interdisciplinary teams across Canada, the Five Eyes nations, and international research networks to strengthen mental health systems for those who serve and those who care for them.
