Biography

Dr. Chan earned her Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto, where she also earned her MD. She completed her residency in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Western University. Over the next two years she then completed a Masters in Healthcare Quality, Risk and Safety at Queens University. Her Master’s degree was in part sponsored by Allen-Carey Award of Excellence in Women’s Health.

Dr. Chan is currently the Deputy Program Director for the residency program, as well as the Competency Committee Chair for the residents. She is the Simulation Lead for department, responsible for running scenarios involving residents and a multi-disciplinary team. She as well has been appointed the Safety and Quality Champion for Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Her practice focuses on general obstetrics and gynaecology, including the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit.

From a national perspective, she sits on the Obstetrics Committee and the Medico-Legal and Ethics Committee of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. She has been involved in writing several guidelines through this organization.

Research

Dr. Chan is currently working on an AMOSO-funded grant led by Dr. Paradis (ENT) investigating the use of deliberate practice in surgical residency.  Her interests also lie in quality improvement practices, for which she has received a Faculty Development Mini Fellowship.
