Admission via transfer into year two

Admission via transfer is only considered if a vacancy exists that year. A seat in the class sometimes becomes available due to attrition. Admission via transfer beyond Year 2 is not permitted. Access to the Transfer Application is available only from this webpage from May 1 to July 1 at 11:59PM ET

Application criteria

It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure all documentation is submitted online by the application deadline.

Applicants must meet the following requirements at the time of application:
  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
  • Be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate dental program in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, or United States and have completed at least one year of dental school.
  • Have met the following academic admission requirements, as specified on our Admission Requirements and Frequently Asked Questions webpages:
    • Undergraduate coursework and cumulative GPA (cGPA)
    • Prerequisites
  • Be proficient in the English language. Applicants whose first language is not English may be required to demonstrate their understanding of the English language.
  • Submit a personal statement detailing scholastic and non-scholastic achievements.
  • Provide at least 2 letters of reference which must be on letterhead and emailed directly from the referee to admissions.dentistry@schulich.uwo.ca
  • Attend an interview, if requested.

Applicants are NOT required to complete: 

  • Dental Aptitude Test (DAT) 
  • Casper
  • Western autobiographical sketch (ABS)

Transcripts

Transcripts for post-secondary coursework completed outside of Canada and the U.S.A. (excluding dental transcripts) must be evaluted through World Education Services (WES).

WES evaluations

WES evaluations can take several weeks - in some cases months - to be completed, so applicants are advised to begin the WES evaluation process prior to the application opening to ensure all required documents are received by our application deadline.

When requesting a WES evaluation, select:

  • Western University (recipient)
  • Undergraduate Admissions (school/division)
  • WES ICAP Course-by-Course evaluation (electronic delivery)

Prerequisite course synopses

If not originally available in English, a transation will be required.

In addition to completing the online application, applicants must submit all of the following by the application deadline.

Application fee

  • $375.00 CAD non-refundable, payable by credit card within the online application.

Official transcripts (electronic preferred)

  • Required from each university, college or other post-secondary institution previously attended and are currently attending. Transcripts for post-secondary coursework completed outside of Canada and the U.S.A. (excluding dental transcripts) must be assessed through World Education Services (WES) on an ICAP Course-by-Course basis.
  • Must be sent to admissions.dentistry@schulich.uwo.ca directly from the issuing institution, or through a credentialling service (i.e. MyCreds, My eQuals, Parchment).
WES evaluations must be sent by electronic delivery directly from WES. See Application Requirements (above) for details.
If electronic transcripts cannot be provided, applicants must direct the issuing institution to provide transcripts by courier or mail to:

All of the above documentation must be uploaded to the online application or submitted electronically to admissions.dentistry@schulich.uwo.ca.

Applicants are reviewed based on a holistic assessment of their academic and non-academic achievements. The most competitive applicants:

  • Come from a comparable curriculum. Dental curricula delivered in a block/module structure is generally not comparable to Schulich Dentistry first year curriculum. Please refer to the Dental Curriculum Equivalency Summary Form

  • Have good standing in their current dental program. Applicants who have been required to withdraw from a dental school for academic or other reasons will usually be ineligible for admission to Schulich Dentistry via Second Year transfer.

Decisions on Second Year Transfer applicants are not subject to appeal.

Meeting application criteria does not guarantee an offer of admission. There are no fixed seats. Falsification or misrepresentation of information from any portion of the application will result in removal of the application from consideration.
