Rederivation of Mouse Lines from Outside Sources

Rederivation of genetically modified mouse lines is required when lines are obtained from internal or external sources (generally other universities or research institutes) that do not have a clean record for mouse pathogens. The LRTGT obtains embryos or sperm from the line of interest and introduces these embryos into clean female mice during gestation, thereby removing harmful pathogens. Mouse rederivation is used to transfer lines from one mouse facility to another within the London research community or from outside institutes. Many of the mouse facilities in the city require mouse lines to be rederived. The LRTGT has rederived lines obtained from other institutes either from frozen embryos, frozen sperm, or mouse mating pairs. In addition, we can thaw existing cryopreserved lines from investigators to distribute locally, nationally and internationally.
