Email for Life Migration Instructions

  1. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox are preferred) and log into your Office 365 (myoffice.uwo.ca) (new Email for Life system) account using your UWO login email (username@uwo.ca) and password. (Note: For Faculty, your UWO login email for Office 365 is in the following format ssmd-username@uwo.ca)

  1. Go to your email by clicking on the mail icon.

  2. Once you are in your email, go to the Gear icon (Cogwheel) gear  on the top right hand part of the screen and click on it, then click on Options.

  3. Once in Options, go to the Mail section, then Accounts section and click on Connected accounts, click the plus sign to add your old Email for Life account information.

  4. Enter your Email for Life username, BUT change the domain name (@meds.uwo.ca or @dents.uwo.ca) to @emailforlife.fmd.uwo.ca (SEE SCREENSHOT):

    • This change will ensure that the account connects correctly to the old Email for Life system. (This is a temporary change for this step. Your Email for Life email address will not change as a result of this step).

    • Then enter your Email for Life password for the old Email for Life system.

  5. Once you click on Ok, you will be presented with a message that there is a new account connection and that it is now connected. Now click OK.

    • If you encounter any error messages, click on Back and check what you did in step 5.

  6. A new message will be seen that indicates that your email from the old Email for Life system is downloading.

    • You will also be sent a verification email that must be clicked in order to allow the new Email for Life system to synchronize your email. Please be patient as it can take several minutes for this email to arrive.

  7. Now click on the home button home  in the top left hand corner of the screen and click on the Mail icon.

    • You have been sent a verification email.

    • You MUST click the link in this email in order to allow the new Email for Life system to synchronize your email.

    • Failure to click on this email will mean that your old email will NOT be synchronized to the Office 365 (new Email for Life) system.

  8. You should now see an E-Mail Verification Succeeded message. This indicates that your old Email for Life email account is connected to your Office 365 (new Email for Life) account. Your email will now synchronize from your old account to your new account.

    • Your email will start to synchronize quickly, but may take several hours to complete. At this point you can log out of Office 365 and/or close your web browser. The synchronization process will continue to sync your emails without further action and do not require you to be logged into the web page.

  9. Congratulations! You have successfully migrated your old Email for Life email and account to the new Office 365 Email for Life system. At this point you are migrated and there is no further need to login to the old Email for Life system. Once the migration window has ended in late July, your password will be reset on the old Email for Life system and you will no longer be able to access the old system.
