Dr. Jacqueline Torti Appointed as CERI Scientist

I’m delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Jacqueline Torti, PhD, as a Scientist at Schulich’s Centre for Education Research and Innovation and as Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine with a cross appointment to Western’s Faculty of Education.

Dr. Torti is an interdisciplinary scholar with a PhD in Public Health Sciences from the University of Alberta. She brings an impressive portfolio of peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and graduate-level teaching to the role. Her developing research program focuses on the effect of value misalignment on provider stress and burnout, and explores whether character may serve a protective function. Having already worked with colleagues at Schulich to develop and test a theoretical model of character for the health professions, Dr. Torti plans to extend this research by exploring whether character development may reduce the stress and burnout experienced by resident physicians. This work holds much promise for creating badly-needed new strategies to promote and protect the health and well-being of health care providers.

Dr. Torti’s understanding of diverse research methodologies and her experience as a teacher and mentor will enrich CERI’s capacity to support education scholarship across Schulich. Dr. Torti is already well-known to the CERI community through her previous role as Research Consultant and Education Specialist. In that capacity, she offered impactful support to students in the MHPE-Canada program, as well as providing research consultations to faculty and learners wishing to develop scholarly projects in education. She has built a reputation for excellence in all that she does.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Torti to her new faculty role. Over the coming few months, we will create opportunities for her to introduce herself and her work to our community of educators and researchers. Stay tuned!

Sincerely,
