CERI would like to extend an invitation to faculty, residents, medical and graduate students who are interested in education research in the health professions to join us at our 2019 Annual Research Symposium. 

Our 2019 keynote is Dr. Rachel Ellaway. Dr. Ellaway is a professor in Community Health Sciences and Director of the Office of Health and Medical Education Scholarship at the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. She was previously the Assistant Dean for Curriculum and Planning at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and before that led the educational technology team for medicine, veterinary medicine, and dentistry at the University of Edinburgh. Widely published and recognized for her many contributions to medical education, Dr. Ellaway’s work has encompassed technology and systems in medical education, social accountability, context, admissions, realism, and the philosophy of science. She has led the development of open source software and data standards that are widely used around the world, she is the qualitative editor of Advances in Health Science Education, and the creatrix of the AMEE Fringe.

Dr. Ellaway's talk will explore, “Ideology, moral agency, and axiology in medical education scholarship."

During this talk, participants will:

  1. What might a values model for medical education scholarship look like?
  2. Focus on moral agency as a coordinating concept
  3. Exploring medical education scholarship as a moral undertaking with its intersectionalities and
    positionalities.
