The Cardiology Program at Children's Hospital, LHSC is the tertiary referral center for infants, children and adolescents with congenital and inherited cardiac disease in Southwestern Ontario, and provides specialist cover for the Emergency Department, In-patient unit, Paediatric Critical Care Unit, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  The Paediatric Cardiac Program is a fully integrated program with specialized services including consultation and echocardiography, arrhythmia assessment including-- 24-hour Holter Monitoring, Trans-telephonic Event Recorders and Loop Recorders. Pacemaker surveillance and Stress testing (routine and metabolic) is also available. Consultation for Maternal/Fetal echocardiography is available.


The program also provides transitioning services to Adult Congenital Heart Specialists for children with congenital heart disease who reach the age of 18 in the Paediatric Program. The program is integrated with the Ontario Provincial Paediatric Cardiac Network with the provision of Cardiovascular Surgery and Interventional Cardiology by SickKids in Toronto.


A Nurse Practitioner clinic for care of pre-operative and post-operative surgical patients is provided including an anti-coagulation management program for children with cardiovascular disease.

The Team:

The team also includes specialized /certified sonographers, ECG technicians, clerical support and research assistants. The team has access to social work and dietician assistance as necessary.
