Dean's Stipend for Graduate Research presented

Four outstanding graduate students at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry have received the 2013 Dean's Stipend for Graduate Research.

Rajesh Gupta, Department of Biochemistry and Lida Radan, Department of Physiology & Pharmacology (Collaborative Graduate Program in Developmental Biology) have received the PhD stipend which provides for $25,000 per year for four years.

Meanwhile Ayden Scheim, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Sarah Svenningsen, Department of Medical Biophysics have received the Dean's MSc Transfer to PhD Stipend for Graduate Research. This will provide each student with $5,000 each year over four years toward their PhD stipend.

Gupta's thesis proposal is entitled Studies on the Characterization of Salivary Antimicrobial Peptides and their Encapulation for Therapeutic Application, and he works under the supervision of Dr. Walter Siquiera, Biochemistry, and Schulich Dentistry.

Radan is working under the supervision of Professor Dean Betts, Physiology and Pharmacology and her thesis proposal is entitled Extra-telomeric roles for Telomerase in Cell Fate Decisions.

Scheim's thesis proposal is entitled HIV-Related Sexual Risk among Transgender Ontario and Chunkwise Regression of Methods for Social Epidemiology. He is working under the supervision of Dr. Greta Bauer, Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

Svenningsen's thesis proposal is entitled Measuring Pulmonary Structure and Function using hyperpolarized Noble Gas Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Her supervisor is Dr. Grace Parraga, Medical Biophysics and Robarts Research Institute.
