Speaker on Aboriginal Healing Practices Dec. 4

Elizabeth Akiwenzie, SSW, TPW, will be speaking to the Western community about her work as a cultural and traditional educator developing healing programs based in Aboriginal teachings.

The Aboriginal Medicine event will be held December 4 at 12:30 in the Dental Sciences Building 1002 and is open to the public.

Akiwenzie has worked for a number of years with local Aboriginal communities as a counsellor helping individuals and families achieve a balanced healthy lifestyle through recovery of family values and structures. In collaboration with the Global Health Program of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, she will speak about the history of Aboriginal peoples in the region and current health issues that she encounters in her work.

She has practised as the AHWS Coordinator at the N'Amerind Friendship Centre and as a counsellor for the Southwest Regional Healing Lodge, Kii-kee-wan-nii-kaan.
