Give a Day to World AIDS

Monday, November 30, 2009

Give a Day to World AIDS was started by Western alumna Dr. Jane Philpott (MD'84) to encourage individuals to donate a day's pay on December 1 - World AIDS Day - to help with HIV/AIDS relief in Africa.

Schulich medical students are asking the Western community to fight AIDS through research, raising awareness, volunteering or donating a day's income (or whatever you can afford) to one of the following organizations:

*Western Heads East http://www.westernheadseast.ca/make_financial_gift.cfm

* using the Western online giving form, please enter "Western Heads East" or "World AIDS Day" in the special instructions/gift designation line.

In the tradition of many East African countries, communities pull together to work for a common cause, organizing fundraising and community support events called Harambees. A Give a Day to World AIDS 'Harambee' will take place December 8 at Western's University Community Centre atrium: displays 10 am to 3 pm, remarks 12:30 pm. African dance and fashion show 2 to 2:30 pm. All students, staff and faculty are welcome. Speakers from AIDS Committee of London and Western Heads East. Displays also from Save the Children and Free the Children.
