Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee proposes members for Standing and Ad Hoc Committees of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
Nominees include faculty members who have demonstrated a record of engagement and participation and whose experience and perspectives align with the School’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles.
The Nominating Committee typically meets twice per year, once in the spring and once in the fall. Requests to fill committee vacancies should be submitted to selection.committee@schulich.uwo.ca prior to the next scheduled meeting.
Faculty members who wish to be considered for an upcoming vacancy are invited to submit a self‑nomination form. The Nominating Committee will review all vacancies and nominations at its next scheduled meeting. Where more than one candidate is nominated for a vacancy, a vote will be held. Once candidates have been confirmed and approved by the Joint Schulich Council (JSC), successful nominees will be notified.
Summary of Committees
The MD/PhD Committee is a committee of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry with representatives from the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Its mission is to establish policies and guidelines related to the design and sustenance of the MD/PhD Program. The committee structure is listed with the appropriate staggering of terms for membership to ensure continuity and injection of new members.
Three Faculty members are elected at large to serve in this role.
The Medicine Admissions Committee of the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry (Schulich) at Western University, is the sole governance body granted full authority by Schulich, that is responsible for the vision, policies & guidelines, processes, and quality improvement for the admissions process into the Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program.
Three Faculty members are elected at large to serve in this role.
To nominate members for Standing and Ad Hoc Committees of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Nominees should include Faculty members that have a record of engagement and participation, and be in-line with EDI principals.
To nominate representatives of Faculty on other bodies as required.
Eight members of the Council of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry elected by Council:
- Three members from Basic Sciences
- Four members from Clinical Sciences
- One member from the School of Dentistry
The Committee shall consider all positive recommendations for initial appointments at the rank of Associate Professor, Continuing Appointment, or Professor. Such recommendations may emanate from the Department Chair or Department Committee or from a Selection Committee in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the University.
Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry Representatives (Elected):
- One Clinician Teacher or Clinician Educator at the rank of Professor, elected by Faculty Council;
- One Clinician Researcher or Clinician Scientist at the rank of Professor, elected by Faculty Council;
- One Clinician Administrator at the rank of Professor, elected by Faculty Council;
- One Clinical Academic at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (any ARC), elected by Faculty Council;
- One Full-time tenured Professor from the basic medical science departments, elected by Faculty Council;
The Summer Research Training Program (SRTP) Coordinating Committee oversees the operation and development of the Summer Research Training Program and Schulich Research Opportunities Program. Committee members participate in the SRTP by facilitating seminars and reviewing repots.
Departmental and School representatives include 6 Members at large.
