From the Desk of Dr. Quiñonez

October 2022

Dr. Carlos Quiñonez I hope you have settled into the semester and are enjoying the leaves on campus turning brilliant shades of red, yellow, and orange. I can't help but marvel at how beautiful it is as I walk or bike to work.

It's hard to believe I’ve only been here a few months. I feel very much a part of the Schulich Dentistry community and I'm proud of all the work we are doing. We’ve struck two committees: a Governance Renewal Committee and a Curriculum Renewal Committee. We’ve also assembled our Accreditation Team and are getting ready for that cycle to begin early next year. All our programs are being accredited – undergraduate DDS and ITD, graduate GPR, Orthodontics, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

It’s also that time of year when budgets are finalized. We’ve submitted our three-year budget, which takes us into 2026, and we continue to be good fiscal stewards of the funds we receive. We anticipate the potential for significant change given our curriculum renewal, and our focus over the next couple of years will be to stabilize our staff and faculty complement, as well as our operations to be more efficient and effective in our mission to be of service to our patients, our community, and to each other.

In this regard, I’ve heard some inspiring things about last year's "November to Remember" fundraising efforts and I want to thank Felipe and the Class of 2024, as well as all of you who donated, for getting us into the giving spirit a little early. Congratulations on your successful clothing drive and thank you for your commitment to being of service.

Watch for some exciting updates coming soon about this year's charitable initiative and holiday celebration. I'm looking forward to wrapping up 2022 with a bang!

Thank you,

Carlos
