The Dentistry Surgical Care Unit, located at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, operates as an outpatient day surgery unit. This fully accredited unit provides access to state-of-the-art care and specialized support for patients with complicated dental requirements. Specifically, it enables the provision of oral surgery and paediatric restorative dentistry.

The Unit is unique to any dental school in North America and offers unparalleled access to care for the people of Southwestern Ontario. The Unit is a joint collaboration with Schulich Dentistry and the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine. Nurses, dental assistants and support staff are all veterans of the teaching hospitals in London.

Patients are referred to an oral maxillofacial surgeon or paediatric dentist who will arrange for care at the Dental Surgical Care Unit.

Patients will be cared for during their stay by a full surgical team consisting of oral surgeons or paediatric dentists, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, surgical residents, dental assistants and anesthesia assistants.

Who performs the treatment?
All procedures will be performed by an oral surgeon or paediatric dentist. The Unit is staffed by a team of professionals, including oral surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and allied health team members.

What procedures are performed?
A wide spectrum of dental procedures may be performed at the discretion of the oral surgeon or paediatric dentist.

Where do appointments take place?
Pre-operative appointments and consultations will take place prior to surgery at the oral surgeon’s or paediatric dentist’s office.

Is parking available?
Parking will be available at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry on the day of surgery. Please note, there is a cash fee payable to the parking attendant. Accessible parking is available in this lot and a wheelchair is available for patient use at the clinic site.
