2018 sharing Smiles Day

Hockey with the Mighty Dents, singing Karaoke, and horsing around with JW, the Western Mustangs mascot, were just a few of the fun activities that kicked off the 2018 Sharing Smiles Day. Once again, Schulich Dentistry hosted more than 200 participants for what was the ninth annual day, which is hosted in partnership with Oral Health Total Health (OHTH).

Sharing Smiles Day is a fun-filled, informative day where the attitudinal barriers between dental students and persons with special needs are removed and positive relationships fostered.
It serves as OHTH’s cornerstone event with three main objectives: to provide opportunity for positive interactions, to gain comfort and confidence in providing care for persons with special needs, and to bring awareness to both the lack of access to oral care that persons with special needs face, and the importance of oral health care as it relates to one’s overall health and quality of life.

Following the morning of fun, participants learned oral hygiene tips under the supervision of local dentists and hygienists in the community.

Alana Fraser, and Shirley Chan, Dentistry Class of 2019, Brittany Davies and Amr Alsabbagh from Dentistry Class of 2020 dedicated many hours to ensuring that every participant left the day with a smile on their face. They wanted to be sure to recognize the many volunteers and Community Living London who contributed to the event success.
