Biography

Dr Sujoy Banik joined the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine as Clinical Assistant Professor in July 2020, after completing his Fellowships in Neuroanesthesia and Advanced Clinical Practice at Western University, London, Ontario, Canada. He completed his MBBS medical degree from University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi, New Delhi, India in 2006, and went on to join the Anesthesia Residency MD program at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh India, and obtained the MD (Anaesthesia) degree in 2010. After completing 2 more years of senior residency, he joined the DM Neuroanesthesiology program at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi, India. This was the clinical equivalent of a PhD program in Neuroanesthesiology in India and both his theses were published subsequently. He went on to work as a Consultant in Neuroanesthesia and Neurocritical Care at Medanta Institute of Neurosciences, India, for a year before coming to Canada as a Neuroanesthesia Fellow at Toronto Western Hospital. He also completed his European Diploma of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care (EDAIC) in 2021. He is also the current Neuroanesthesia Rotation Coordinator for Anesthesia residency program for Anesthesia residents rotating through Neuroanesthesia in junior and senior years at Western University. He is also currently the Resident Research Coordinator for the Residency program at Western University. He is involved with undergraduate medical education through working with the Academic Coaching Program at Schulich School of Medicine for medical students. He is also involved with the Integrated Small Group Learning Program (ISGL) program at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry for year 1 and year 2 Medical students as a group facilitator. His primary field of expertise is Neuroanesthesiology and his research interests are awake craniotomy, functional neurosurgery including epilepsy surgery and Parkinson`s disease, role of dexmedetomidine in Neuroanesthesia, and anesthesia in complex intracranial vascular neurosurgery. He has more than 30 publications in peer reviewed journals and has written several book chapters as well.
