Drs. Cheng, Martin, and Bainbridge on hand to teach and present at the 14th Annual EACTA and ICCVA Congress

The 14th Joint Annual Meeting of The European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiologists (EACTA) & The International Congress on Cardiovascular Anesthesia (ICCVA)September 17th – 19th 2014, Florence, Italy

Members of our Department faculty and leadership including Distinguished University Professor & Chair/Chief, Dr. Davy Cheng; MEDICI (Medical Evidence Decision Integrity Clinical Impact) and EPiCOR (Evidence Based Perioperative Clinical Outcomes Research) Program Director, Dr. Janet Martin; and Cardiac Anesthesia Program Director, Dr. Daniel Bainbridge were actively participating in the EACTA ICCVA 2014 Congress.

Organized by the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists and the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologists, this EACTA ICCVA Congress has been a great success as the largest international cardiothoracic and vascular anesthesiology meeting in Europe with 800+ participants from over 30 countries and six continents.  Our Department is thrilled to have had such a strong faculty presence at such a prestigious event. Our faculty involvement in this international event included teaching workshops, lectures, and administrative organization of the event. Dr. Cheng sits on the Scientific Program Advisory Group for the EACTA, and co-chaired the 14th ICCVA sessions. Dr. Cheng was given the distinction of opening the Congress with his plenary lecture, “Health Technology Assessment and Knowledge Translation – Evidence in Guidelines to Practice: The road less travelled.”

Later in the congress proceedings, Dr. Janet Martin led and instructed a very popular workshop, Evidence-Based Decision-Making, Health Technology Assessment and Knowledge Translation; and presented lectures on “Health Economics: Can we afford to ignore health economics” and “Debate in Intravenous fluids on colloid solutions”. Dr. Daniel Bainbridge presented lectures on “Fundamentals of acquiring and analyzing 3D echocardiography images” and “Ultra-fast track in cardiac recovery”
