The Local Impact For Tomorrow (LIFT) was created to connect Schulich, Sciences, and Health Sciences students to volunteering opportunities in the London and Middlesex community. LIFT makes it easy for organizations to post needs, and for students to respond to these needs.

Students - Get involved by following these steps:

Step 1: Complete learning modules and complete quiz

  1. Learning modules are housed on LIFT Brightspace site.
  2. Pass the quiz (must achieve minimum score of 80%)
You will receive a certificate of completion if you pass the quiz - proceed to Step 2.
If you are having trouble accessing the site, please email lift@uwo.ca.

Step 2: Upload certificate of completion on Get Connected and complete your profile

  1. Sign into Get Connected using your Western Identity (no need to sign up)
  2. Upload certificate of completion and Vulnerable Sector Check*
  3. Complete your profile on Get Connected
  4. Start responding to opportunities/needs!

Proceed to Step 3 to add your volunteer activities to your Western Co-Curricular Record (WCCR).

*If applicable. Many volunteer opportunities involve interacting with the vulnerable population, which requires a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). If required, you will need to obtain a VSC from London Police Service.

Step 3: Add your LIFT activities to WCCR

You can access and add activities on your Western Co-Curricular Record (WCCR) through Western Connect.
  1. Login to Western Connect
  2. Add LIFT to your WCCR
Once you add LIFT to your WCCR:
  • The LIFT team will receive a notification to approve the addition.
  • IMPORTANT: Make sure your volunteer hours are logged on Get Connected so it can be approved without delay.

FAQ

What would be expected from us as a community partner?
  • Manage volunteer postings, including messaging students who have signed up, to provide next steps
  • Keep organization's profile on Get Connected updated
  • Sign an affiliation agreement with Western (This agreement must be in place before volunteer opportunities can be posted)
  • We would love to see you at our LIFT events on campus
We have our own volunteer onboarding process. Will we need to exempt LIFT students?

No. While students are required to complete learning modules and pass a quiz to participate in LIFT, they must still complete the onboarding process (e.g., volunteer forms, interviews, police checks) and any training required by you.
