Dr. Julian Diaz-Abele graduated from McGill University School of Medicine. After this he attended and graduated from Plastic Surgery residency at the University of Manitoba, recognized by its training and leaders in the field of microvascular surgery.

After his plastic surgery training, he went on to do subspecialized training in the USA and Canada. In the USA he graduated from the Kansas University Medical Center, where he trained in head and neck, breast, extremity, and trunk microsurgical reconstruction; in super-microsurgical lymphatic reconstruction for lymphedema, and upper extremity replant.

Following his microvascular sub-specialization, he went on to do additional subspecialized training in adult craniomaxillofacial reconstructive and aesthetic surgery at the University of Toronto. There he trained in adult craniofacial trauma reconstruction, craniofacial oncological reconstruction, adult cleft surgery, orthognathic surgery, cranioplasty, and facial aesthetic surgery.

His special interests lie in adult reconstructive and aesthetic conditions affecting the face, skull, and head and neck. These include post-traumatic (motor vehicle collisions, ballistic injuries, skull defects etc.), post-ablative (after cancer), vascular tumors, skull tumors, dental tumors (eg. ameloblastoma), skin and bone cancers, and developmental craniofacial deformities (eg. cleft lip, palate, and nasal deformities).
