Special emphasis will be placed on the biological diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases, with a focus on emerging therapeutic compounds and their clinical applications.  Training in the fellowship in neurodegeneration and dementia allows fellows to practice within their specialty or subspecialty, and to share a common vocabulary and set of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that foster collaborative care with other clinicians within this specialized community of practice.  Fellows will become leaders in the discipline of neurocognitive disorders and agents of positive change by facilitating the collaboration and integration of the multiple disciplines necessary to manage these complex disorders. Physicians trained in this fellowship are thus better equipped to address and advocate for the needs of persons with neurocognitive disorders.

The clinical fellowship will provide successful candidates with the opportunity to gain advanced skills in the assessment of patients with neurodegenerative disorders. The 1-year fellowship will be taught with a focus on specific competencies gained as a medical expert, communicator, leader, health advocate, scholar and professional. Fellows will gain experience using advanced clinical and research methods, including advanced neuroimaging, neuropathology, genetics, CSF and blood biomarker acquisition and interpretation, advanced clinical trials, and training in neuropsychometric testing.
