Journal Club

Journal Club is held every 3-months from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. The senior residents are paired up with a junior resident and are responsible for choosing a topic that they feel would be beneficial to all.

Journal Club helps to train residents in the process of applying the principles of evidence-based medicine (EBM). In particular, journal clubs are designed to help residents, medical students and staff, identify key points addressed by the article, and put them in context, discuss the scientific validity of the findings, and consider how the findings apply to practice, policy, education or research.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Teach critical appraisal skills in the context of evaluating articles, which are of clinical relevance to general surgeons.
  2. Obtain the knowledge and skills to critically appraise surgical literature.
  3. Help residents, medical students and staff, identify key points addressed by the article, and put them in context, discuss the scientific validity of the findings, and consider how the findings apply to practice, policy, education or research. We would like to thank the many sponsors for the educational grants they provide for this event, without their continued support this lecture series would not be possible. 2014-2015 Journal Club Schedule
