Meet Schulich Dentistry's new residents

Nine outstanding learners have joined Schulich Dentistry graduate programs during the past months, eager to begin their post-graduate training.

The Graduate Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics program welcomed three trainees in the incoming Class of 2024.

Dr. Tae Wook Kwon has been a family dentist in the Hamilton area for more than six years. He earned his dental degree at the University of Toronto in 2014, before completing a General Dentistry residency at Eastman Dental, University of Rochester in New York. Prior to being accepted to dental school, he studied biology at Western University. 

Dr. Sepideh Noruziaan, previously based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is a Western alumna and completed her dental degree at Schulich Dentistry in 2019. Dr. Noruziaan has volunteered in humanitarian missions with 1000 Smiles and Health Mission Outreach, providing extraction and restorative services to patients in Guatemala and Grenada.

Dr. Sean White hails from Puslinch, Ontario, and has spent the past three years practising as a general dentist in Brantford, Ontario. Dr. White earned his dental degree at the University of Sydney in Australia, of which a highlight was completing a rural rotation with the Poche Centre for Aboriginal Health and the Armajun Aboriginal Health Service.

General Practice residents began their term at the end of June.

Dr. Eric Piche was accepted into the program after completing his dental degree from the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba last year. While in dental school, Dr. Piche served as the Director of Corporate Relations for the Manitoba Dental Students’ Association and was involved in planning various fundraisers and community development initiatives.

Dr. Danielle Battaglia is also a recent University of Manitoba DDS graduate, where she served with the Manitoba Dental Students’ Association as Secretary. Prior to attending dental school, Dr. Battaglia worked as a laboratory technician for the City of Winnipeg for two years. 

Dr. Shirley Wan is a Class of 2021 graduate from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry. Throughout dental school, she participated in a number of student initiatives including the Prosthodontic Mentorship Program, the Annual Talent Dentantics Show as stage manager, and she served as the student representative on the Professionalism Committee.

Dr. Maryam Tarar joins the program after completing her dental degree at McGill University. 

Dr. Nader Shaker joined the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program. He earned his dental degree in 2019 from the University of Manitoba. He was a General Practice resident at the School from 2019 to 2020 and the program welcomes his return as a PGY1 resident.
