A new annual student-run theatre show and talent showcase will bring fundraising and fun to the School community.

Dentertainment aims to promote collegiality among students while showcasing their creative skills. The inaugural showcase, which is currently planned for the end of April, will feature filmed skits written and performed by students and faculty members, as well as various individual and group talent performances.

“Being a dental student can be all-consuming at times. We plan to put on a show that allows our multi-faceted and talented students the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents, and to display their creativity in a fun and engaging way,” said Rootu Joshi, Dentistry Class of 2022, President of the Dentertainment executive team.

Thanks in part to community sponsors of the event, Dentertainment will donate a portion of the proceeds to support The Wright Clinic, a not-for-profit dental clinic established by Dr. Kenneth Wright to provide accessible dental care to Londoners facing barriers. There will also be recordings of the event available for purchase as a memento of this inaugural event.

The hope is that Dentertainment will become an annual tradition for Schulich Dentistry students, and will eventually be able to held in person. However, Joshi says this year’s virtual event is a particularly important opportunity for students to socialize, given the disruptions to regular events and socials.

“With the restrictions due to COVID-19 this year, we feel that it is especially important to organize an event that can bring together the students of Schulich Dentistry and strengthen our community.”

Joshi says the event could not be possible without the help of their faculty advisor, Dr. Rae Dorion, who will be overseeing the content of the show, and Dr. Sharat Pani, who has volunteered to organize the faculty skit.
