Module 3 - Migrating a page
1. Prep your assets
To successfully migrate an existing page, you’ll need both the current live page and access to the Cascade environments of the current and new sites.
Begin by navigating to the current live page to download all necessary images and files. Once downloaded, upload these assets to the designated asset folder on the new site—typically named “img” or “doc.” This process ensures that all media files are correctly stored and accessible.

2. Create a new page and copy static content
Next, create the new page by following these steps:
-
Identify the Correct Folder:
Use the current page’s URL to determine the appropriate folder in the new site. If the folder doesn’t exist, create a new "folder for navigation" and name it accordingly. This ensures that the new page maintains the same URL structure as the current one, avoiding broken links. -
Add a New Page:
Once in the correct folder, add a new page and select the “Left Navigation” layout option. Paste the title from the current page to maintain consistency. -
Copy and Paste Static Content:
Highlight and copy the content from the current page. Then, navigate to the one-column section of the new page and paste the content there. The formatting—such as headings, bold text, and bullet points—should be automatically applied. If you prefer to remove the old formatting and start fresh, paste the content into a plain text editor like Notepad first, then transfer it to the new page. -
Adjust and Refine Details:
Once the content is in place, re-select images or files from the new asset folder, reapply the button and table formats, and update any outdated or incorrect content. (It’s recommended to defer checking for broken links until all pages have been built.)
Notes
- It's important to create the new pages within the same folder as the current pages. This ensures that the new pages will use the same URL as the original ones after the new site is launched. Placing the pages in different folders can lead to broken links.
- Copying and pasting content directly from the old page helps maintain its formatting. However, if you'd prefer to start fresh and remove the old formatting, simply paste the content into a plain text editor like Notepad first, then transfer it to the new page. This will ensure no unwanted formatting is carried over.
