Submit a speaking remarks request

We welcome requests to provide support in writing remarks for the Dean.

Please reach out at least one month ahead of time for your request to be considered and prioritized.

Frequently asked questions

The request form asks for event details, an agenda with an order of any other speakers, audience information, the names of people who should be recognized, key messages for the speech and a contact for any questions the Communications & Marketing team.

Key messages are the main points, themes or ideas you would like the Dean to emphasize in their remarks. In this context, key messages can be raw and straightforward ideas as they will be polished and refined during the speechwriting process so that they can be properly articulated by the Dean.

Key messages may include institutional priorities, audience-specific context, important achievements, calls to action or any points that should be reinforced throughout the remarks. In most scenarios, key messages will mirror the overall purpose and mission of an event.

Donor or alumni events

  • Specific information relating to how donations will provide support to learners, research or programs.

Additional context and background information is always helpful when drafting speeches. This may include copies of past remarks, detailed information on special guests in attendance, specific statistics that would stand out to the audience or details surrounding upcoming projects or events that the detail could refer to.

In most scenarios, it is better to provide too much background information rather than too little.

Due to the high volume of requests, our team only has the capacity to provide support to the Dean. For signature School-wide events, such as Awards of Excellence ceremonies or the J. Allyn Taylor International Prize in Medicine, we may draft remarks for all speakers involved.
