School Naming Conventions
The Schulich name is associated with several leading Canadian institutions, reflecting Seymour Schulich’s remarkable support for higher education. For Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, a clear and consistent visual identity helps distinguish our School within this national landscape. These guidelines support distinctive, accurate and consistent use of our identity across all communications and marketing applications.
When using the School’s name in writing, upon first reference to the School, the full Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University must be used.
Upon a second reference the only acceptable short form is Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, or the School, with a capital 'S'.
When referring to either the Medicine or Dentistry aspects of the School either Schulich Medicine or Schulich Dentistry is acceptable. However, identifying a separate ‘Schulich School of Medicine’ or ‘Schulich School of Dentistry’ is not allowed.
Please note: The “Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry” is no longer used in either formal or informal communications.
The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry can never be referred to as simply ‘Schulich’ or as SSMD. The full name, or approved short-forms (listed above) must be used.
