Division of Geriatric Psychiatry Continuing Professional Development

Mission Statement

The current Canadian population is aging with complex health issues. In response to this need, the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry, Western University strives to contribute to the learning and development of health care providers by providing timely and relevant professional development. It hosts and supports a diverse range of activities for physicians and healthcare professionals seeking up-to-date knowledge and skill development in the area of late life mental illness.

The Division is involved in ongoing educational activities in the following areas at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry:

  1. Geriatric Psychiatry Symposium, hosted annually since 2003
  2. Specialized Geriatric Services, supported the education of community providers through the Southwestern Ontario Geriatric Assessment Network (SWOGAN) 2000 -2016
  3. Geriatric Division Journal Club
  4. Geriatric Mental Health Education Series (virtual since 2020)
The Geriatric Division supports learning together with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of care for older adults in our community.
