"Gene Discovery in Neuroinflammation and Neurodegeneration" as our 2023-2024 R.G.E. Murray Annual Lecturer.

Dr. Philippe Gros, PhD

headshot-gros-anl-lctr.jpgDr. Gros is the Deputy Vice-President, Research and Innovation, at McGill University.

He is also a James McGill Professor of the Department of Biochemistry, an associate member of the Departments of Human Genetics, and Microbiology and Immunology, a founding member of the McGill Center for the Study of Complex Traits, a member of the McGill International Center for Tuberculosis, and a member of the Goodman Cancer Research Institute.

Dr. Gros is internationally known for his investigations and discoveries of genes, proteins and pathways that influence complex human diseases, including infectious diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis, inflammatory conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and multiple sclerosis, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. He holds six patents and is the author of close to 400 scientific publications to date.

Dr. Gros has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Killam Prize in Health Sciences, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, and the McLaughlin Medal. He is also an Officer of the Order of Canada.
