Making Connections

Homecoming

For alumni connecting with their peers is just one of the perks of being part of the Schulich Medicine & Dentistry family. This year, the School was pleased to host several events where alumni had a chance to engage with each other while connecting back with the School.

Homecoming Weekend

Homecoming Weekend set a new record in 2017 with more 1,500 alumni, families, students and community members attending a mix of events throughout the weekend. Dr. Margaret Chan, BA’73, MD’77, DSc’99, and Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Award recipient, called on lecture attendees to push boundaries and leave their mark on global health care. Following the morning lectures, alumni and their guests enjoyed a BBQ lunch hosted by the Dean before heading off to the Homecoming football game to watch the Western Mustangs take on the Ottawa Gee-Gees. The evening celebration included the Schulich Dentistry Alumni Reception, the Golden Alumni Reception and concluded with the Dean’s Gala and the 2017 Alumni of Distinction Awards presentation.

Reunion Celebrations

2017 was a remarkable year for Schulich Medicine & Dentistry alumni reunions with more than 10 celebrations throughout the year, including the fifth reunion for the Medicine Class of 2012, the first graduating class with students from the Schulich Medicine – Windsor Campus. Many classes celebrated during Homecoming Weekend. Most notably was the Dentistry Class of 2007 who hosted various celebrations throughout the year in Toronto and Niagara-on-the-Lake, and the celebration continued during the Homecoming Dentistry Alumni Reception. Medicine Classes of 1957, 1967, 1987 and 1997 celebrated their reunions by attending the Dean’s Gala, enjoying the company of classmates and dancing the night away to a live band.
