MEDICI Participates in 73rd World Health Assembly

Statement for WHA73, Nov 9-12, 2020:

Anaesthesia and surgical care are essential for a well-functioning health system and Universal Health Coverage (UHC). This is highlighted by WHA Resolution 68.15 and the fact that 5 out of 7 billion people globally do not have access to safe, affordable anaesthesia and surgical care.

The indispensability of anaesthesiologists has been made even more apparent by their prominent role in the global response to COVID-19, especially in critical care medicine.

The WFSA calls on member states to:

  1. Increase anaesthesia workforce capacity.
  2. Adopt the WHO-WFSA International Standards for a Safe Practice of Anaesthesia.
  3. Develop National Surgical, Obstetric and Anaesthesia Plans with active participation of anaesthesiologists.
